Derek Gray Jr

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman

Derek Gray Jr has more than 20 years of public accounting experience as a tax consultant. He provides consulting and compliance services to corporations, pass-through entities, and individuals, with an emphasis on partnership taxation and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Gray has significant experience serving companies in a range of industries, including distilleries, manufacturing, real estate, biotech, and insurance. Mr. Gray serves as the Chief Executive Officer and also oversees our Taxation and as the co-chair of our Beverage Services Group, in addition to serving on the firm’s Tax Committee, Tax Quality Control Committee, and Tax Training Committee.
Mr. Gray graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with Honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Accounting and Finance. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and California Society of CPAs. Derek is a frequent speaker at the California Society of CPAs and other institutions on topics such as IRC Sec. 704 and tax reform.

Ralph Burton

Chief Operating Officer

Ralph has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services sector. Prior to joining Gray Industries as Chief Operating Officer, Ralph held a range of leadership positions at HSBC, including Global Chief Executive, Wealth and Personal Banking, and Group Head of Wealth Management and Digital, as well as Global Chief Operating Officer of Retail Banking and Wealth Management. Before taking his current position Ralph also worked as a senior vice president of operations for Koch Ag & Energy Solutions spending a total of five years immersed in operations and compliance for Koch Ag & Energy Solutions.

Douglas Murphy

Chief Financial Officer

Douglas specializes in debt capital markets and derivatives, including derivative transactions across a broad range of asset classes, structured repurchase transactions and securities lending. He also advises financial institutions and corporates on financial restructuring, with a focus on the structuring and issuance of debt, hybrid, digital and derivative securities. In addition to English, you may hear our CFO speaking French, Portuguese, Mandarin and Spanish. Born and educated in America, Douglas also lived in China for 5 years.
Before Douglas’s career in Finance, he led manufacturing and supply chain efforts for Georgia Pacific’s Europe, Middle East, Asia, and African divisions. That role was a natural transition for Douglas following six years as vice president of manufacturing and planning for GP’s International Consumer Products business. Prior to that he held various operations roles with Fort James Corporation and James River Corporation. Douglas holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of California Davie and an MBA from Harvard University.

Julian Young

President of Technology and Risk Assessment

Julian has over 10 years of technology experience in the financial services industry and telecommunications. Before joining Gray Industries, Julian spent 20 years at ING working in senior technology roles and most recently served on the ING’s Board, as the first Chief Technology Officer, where he was responsible for leading the technology and data agenda that helped transform ING into a truly data-driven, digital bank.
Julian is passionate about technology transformation and how we can harness technology and data to unlock our long-term growth strategy and better serve our customers worldwide. Julian holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science & engineering from Duke University and an MBA from Pepperdine University.  Julian also speaks English, Thai, and German.

Jayne Needhame

Senior Vice President of Human Resources

Jayne has over 20 years of experience in human capital management within the  financial sector, Jayne has lead a diverse group of teams focused on transforming businesses, most recently specializing in customer channels, operations and technology and using artificial intelligence and data as a tool to support colleagues and drive personalization for customers. Prior to joining Gray Industries, Jayne held roles at several well-known financial institutions both here and in the United States and the United Kingdom, most recently Barclays located in Central London.

Jayne born in Atlanta, Georgia, hold a bachelor’s degree from the University of George Washington in Washington D.C. and a master’s degree in management from the University of Baylor in Texas.

Sandy Harris

Chief Internal Auditor

Before joining Gray Industries of America, Sandy spent 17 years at PwC in a number of roles, predominantly in the USA, but also spent time in Sydney and London. Sandy’s expertise is in risk, governance and control and at PwC, Sandy was both an external auditor and internal auditor she partnered with most major banks in the USA such as JP Morgan Chase and Citi Bank.
In her career she has held several people leadership roles, including being the Head of Citizen’s for the banking audit practice and the Firm’s gender balance network sponsor. Sandy is passionate about talent development, diversity and inclusion and has led a number of cultural change programs to improve employee engagement. Sandy holds a Master of Accountancy degree from Brown University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Michigan State University.
